Pulses: Red lentils show signs of weakening

Winnipeg, November 28 – It appears red lentils are losing momentum on the North American price charts. A report by Farm Credit Canada cites cheap arrivals from Australia as the main culprit for the decrease. The report says the land down under is offering field run lentils to India at prices below US$700 per tonne. In contrast, the report says Canadian supplies were being recently delivered to Pakistan in the US$750-$775 tonne range. Port congestion was one of the other factors behind the pressure given in the report.

According to the Prairie Ag Hotwire, #1 Red Lentils in Western Canada decreased by one cent per pound last week. Bids ranged from 27 cents per pound at the lows to 34 cents at the highs.
Pinto beans are attracting prices of 40 cents (Canadian) per pound at elevators across Western Canada. In North Dakota, Colorado, Washington and Idaho farmers are getting prices of 41 cents (Canadian) per pound, according to the Prairie Ag Hotwire.
Green pea prices range from C$7.50 to as high as C$9.00 per bushel in Western Canada. Yellow peas range from C$6.85 to
C$8.55 per bushel.
