Well-meaning market mayhem threatens barbecue season

It’s going to be harder than ever to know the base price for North American hogs and pork, since pigs and pork sold into and produced in two high-population states won’t reflect the broader market and can’t be included in average prices.

Olymel scales back production

Olymel is reducing its hog production in Western Canada by closing five of its sow units or farms in Alberta, and one in Saskatchewan. It will cause a net reduction of about 200,000 market hogs per year at the company’s slaughter plant in Red Deer.
