Olds College suspends Fall 2025 intake for multiple programs

Impacted programs include Agricluture Technology Integration, Craft Beverage and Brewery Operations

Olds College is suspending Fall 2025 intake for a number of its post-secondary education programs, including Agriculture Technology Integration. The intake suspension is due to Immigration, Refugee and Citizenship Canada (IRCC) changes, limiting the number of international student permit applications approved across the country.

New members bolster national network of smart farms

Lethbridge College and Innovation Farms Powered by AgExpert have joined an initiative to promote smart farming


The initiative aims to improve productivity and sustainability of farmers and ranchers by encouraging greater technology use. The network was partly launched in 2021 by the Olds College Smart Farm and the Lakeland College Student-Managed Farm in Vermilion, Alta.

Roy Maki is the Smart Farm research manager at Olds and is leading the autonomous agriculture equipment research. When asked about possible financial benefits to the farmer, Maki said that autonomy will be driven primarily by a shortage of capable farm labour.
