In the mid-1960s, the Alberta government was predicting that peat moss would become a major industry in the province within five to 10 years. Banff Mining & Quarrying Ltd. ran this peat moss operation near Evansburg, Alta., where it harvested deep deposits of rich sphagnum moss and then screened, dried and pressure packaged it for delivery to customers.  |  File photo
