Mustard industry on edge over canola hybrid

The new genetically modified variety belongs to the mustard family, and the sector says that could jeapordize exports

Leaders in Canada’s mustard industry are worried that a new canola hybrid, not yet on the market, could harm mustard exports to Europe and other parts of the globe.


Rob Duncan, a canola breeder at the University of Manitoba, used a tool called genomic selection to design these canola plants. Using the tool, breeders can select desired traits from across the entire canola genome.  |  Robert Arnason photo
