The InVigorResults.ca website shows the yield data trial type, results and agronomists' comments for more than 80 trials across the Prairies.

“For growers, it ultimately comes down to dependability and consistency of performance,” says Darrin Hicks, senior brand manager for InVigor hybrid canola at BASF. “The 2023 InVigor lineup will not disappoint.”

Of course, what growers mainly expect is yield — after all, InVigor built its reputation on out-yielding expectations— but Hicks says the technology found in every bag delivers so much more. “Not just to their canola acres, but to the whole farm.”

Leading technology

Hicks is referring to the technology found in every bag of InVigor that can help decision-making across the farm. “We continue to push yield and pod shatter reduction to help farmers manage risk at harvest time,” he says.

“With 13 hybrids in the portfolio this year, I’d suggest trying more than one to spread out your maturity, manage disease pressure and even manage the supply component.”

Indeed, InVigor has led the industry with its patented pod shatter reduction Technology that puts more control in farmers’ hands at harvest time. “The time savings and risk management that come with knowing you have the flexibility to straight cut and eliminate a swathing op, or delay swathing if you have to, and know you’re not going to lose those bushels in the field — that’s so valuable at harvest time when you sometimes have to make decisions on the fly.”

Beyond pod shatter reduction, Hicks says that InVigor offers some of the most robust clubroot-resistance genetics in the market, stacked herbicide-tolerance traits and hybrids with enhanced oil profiles for those who are interested in tapping into that market. “InVigor has been the leader in bringing all these technologies to market,” he says.

Real field data

There are 13 InVigor hybrids in the 2023 lineup, including three new 300 series hybrids, and Hicks says that it’s one of the strongest portfolios yet. Whether you’re looking for long- or short-season maturities, protection from clubroot, straight cut capability, the option to spray Roundup and more, Hicks says you’ll find it in this year’s InVigor lineup.

As to how you’ll find it, he urges farmers to spend some time on the InVigorResults.ca site. “It’s a nice, easy-to-use site that shows you yield data, the trial type, and gives you agronomists’ comments on what happened at that trial site for clear results,” he says. “We put 80-plus replicated field trials in the ground with farmers every year, so no matter where your farm is, you’ll find a trial reasonably close by so you can see how a particular hybrid will perform on your soil, in your conditions.”

Of the three new hybrids for 2023, Hicks is excited about InVigor L350PC. “It’s the highest-yielding hybrid we’ve seen to date,” he says, adding that it clocks in at 115.6 per cent of checks, and carries clubroot resistance and pod shatter reduction traits. “It’s truly has everything.”

The other two new 300 series hybrids for 2023 are InVigor Choice LR354PC, which has stacked LibertyLink® and Roundup Ready® traits, and InVigor Health L359PC with an enhanced oil profile.

Confident choices

“With 13 hybrids in the portfolio this year, I’d suggest trying more than one to spread out your maturity, manage disease pressure and even manage the supply component,” says Hicks. He’s referring to the fact that every year, regardless of brand, popular canola hybrids sometimes sell out too fast. “We grow them outside as well,” he says, adding that bad weather and adverse growing conditions can sometimes affect seed supply.

But he says there’s another good reason to try more than one InVigor hybrid — to gain first-hand experience. “Hybrids don’t last forever in a portfolio,” says Hicks. “And it’s disappointing when your preferred hybrid goes away. I’d rather a farmer have the knowledge and experience from actually growing a different hybrid so that they have something they know they can go to and rely on.”

“What we hear all the time from farmers is that consistency and reliability — whether they’ve got perfect growing conditions or adverse conditions, they know InVigor delivers,” says Hicks.
