Pesticide licence
As of Jan. 1, businesses in Saskatchewan that use pesticides must have a licence issued by Saskatchewan Agriculture.
The pesticide service licence costs $20 a year, expires Dec. 31, and must be renewed every year.
“The requirement … will affect most aerial applicators in Saskatchewan,” said Trent Catley, pesticide investigator with Saskatchewan Agriculture.
“Self-employed applicators and businesses that employ an applicator will need to buy a licence. The exceptions are applicators who apply pesticide to land they own or rent, and government, government agencies and local authorities such as rural municipalities, cities or towns that provide a pesticide service.”
The Saskatchewan Agriculture Aviation Association is in favor of the licence, he said.
“The pesticide service licence requirement will maintain or improve standards by making employers more responsible for the actions of their employees,” said Catley.
Application forms were mailed in December 1997. Anyone who did not receive the form and requires a licence should contact Catley at 306-787-8661.
