JD manual update

John Deere Publishing has revised four of its educational books: Combine Harvesting; Hay and Forage Harvesting; Tillage; and Preventive Maintenance.

These manuals cover agribusiness management practices, agricultural machinery operation and adjustments, and equipment servicing and maintenance. They are designed to

help growers at any skill level improve their operations.

The manuals are not specific to John Deere and are intended to guide the

user through diagnostic, repair or maintenance procedures regardless of the manufacturer.

Case tractor

Case IH’s Magnum 335 tractor is rated at 275 power take-off horsepower and has standard features that include a nine litre Case IH engine with new fuel-saving combustion, a heavy-duty axle is designed to bring more power to the ground and a Cat IVN/III hitch and Cat IV drawbar designed to handle today’s largest and heaviest implements.

The new piston design meets increased power requirements, reduces emissions and offers three percent improvement in fuel economy compared to the previous nine-litre engine.

The same engine is also available in the 275 and 305 series Magnums for 2008, while the 8.3 litre remains standard on the Magnum 215 and 245 models.

The 2008 Magnum models also include factory installed AFS AccuGuide auto guidance systems.

The 335’s new front axle design is rated at 14,850 pounds static capacity to meet today’s higher ballasting and horsepower requirements. The standard Cat IVN/III hitch, with a lift capacity of 18,900 lb., is designed to handle large mounted implements.

The convertible quick hitch can be converted from a Cat IVN to a Cat III and back without removing the quick hitch from the tractor.

The Cat IV drawbar uses a two-inch diameter pin to match Cat IV towed implements. The Cat IV drawbar offers a vertical load capacity of 11,000 lb., or 4,990 kilograms.

The standard transmission on the Magnum 335 is an 18-speed, full power shift 18Fx4R. Other options include a nine-speed full power shift 19Fx4R with a fuel-saving 19th reduced-RPM transport gear and a 23-speed full power shift with shift-through creeper.

A 19-speed, 50 km-h transmission package includes a suspended front axle, trailer brakes, heavy-duty drawbar and wide front and rear fenders. A number of 50 km-h tire options are available.

Glyphosate tank mix

Farmers who plant oats, winter wheat, field peas, dry beans, fababeans, lupins, soybeans or canaryseed can now use Dupont’s Express SG with their glyphosate to clean fields before seeding.

The Express glyphosate tank mix provides control of tough broadleaf weeds such as dandelion, narrow-leafed hawk’s-beard, flixweed, wild buckwheat and volunteer canola.

Express SG is powered by SolumaxTM soluble granules. It dissolves completely when mixed with water, resulting in faster, easier tank cleanout and improved plant absorption. The active ingredient is tribenuron methyl, a Group 2 broadleaf herbicide.

Express is registered for use with Roundup WeatherMax, Roundup Transorb, Roundup Original, Roundup Dry, Touchdown iQTM or Touchdown 600.

For more information about Express SG, call the

DuPont Support Centre at 800-667-3925 or visit the website www.dupont.ca/ag.

Group 1 herbicide

Equinox herbicide by BASF will be widely available across Western Canada for the 2008 growing season.

The herbicide, which was available only in limited quantities in 2007, is a new Group 1 post-emergent dicot graminicide that controls grassy weeds in peas, flax and lentils.

Equinox controls wild oats, green foxtail, volunteer barley and volunteer wheat at the 40 or 60 acre per case rate when applied at the one to six true leaf stage of grassy weeds, with up to two tillers.

It also controls quackgrass at the 32 acre per case rate when applied at the three to six true leaf stage.

The Group 1 active ingredient in Equinox is tepraloxydim. It is absorbed through the leaves and rapidly moves to the rhizomes.

This mode of action kills actively growing rhizome buds, as well as above ground vegetation.

Equinox is rainfast in one hour.

It is packaged in a 3.24 litre jug. Each jug comes with 8.1 litres of Merge adjuvant, enough to treat 40 or 60 acres per case, depending on the application rate.

The herbicide is registered for use on peas, flax and lentils. The company has applied for canola registration.
