Weed and disease control

Canadian wheat growers can now accomplish broad-spectrum weed control and disease protection in a single pass.

Stratego 250EC can now be tank mixed with leading grassy and broadleaf weed herbicides in three ways: with Buctril M; with Puma120 Super and Buctril M; and with Puma120 Super and Refine Extra.

“When you’re already spraying for weeds, early season canopy disinfection with a fungicide makes sense.

“It has been shown to suppress disease development in the lower canopy and reduce disease inoculum later in the season. This can provide both yield and quality benefits at harvest,” says Shaun Corneillie, fungicides portfolio manager with Bayer CropScience.

VIDEO: Green Lightning and Nytro Ag win sustainability innovation award

Nytro Ag Corp and Green Lightning recieved an innovation award at Ag in Motion 2025 for the Green Lightning Nitrogen Machine, which converts atmospheric nitrogen into a plant-usable form.

Stratego 250EC contains two distinct modes of action: propiconazole (Group 3) and trifloxystrobin (Group 11), which provide protection against tan spot, rusts, powdery mildew and septoria. It delivers preventive and limited curative activity with residual protection.

Two years ago, Bayer CropScience voluntarily removed barley and oats from the Stratego label to avoid potential crop export restrictions.

Appropriate tolerances have now been set in the United States, removing the potential for related grain trade issues.

New bean variety

AC Agrinto is the first pinto bean variety from the breeding program at Agriculture Canada’s research centre in Morden, Man., to receive registration.

The variety is taller than other pinto varieties, stands up well through to harvest, matures earlier and yields about the same as the highest yielding older varieties.

It offers good disease resistance that is lacking in the most popular variety, Othello.

The variety is licensed to Agricore United, with seed production and field testing to begin during the 2006 season.

Certified seed should be available within three years.

Wild oat herbicide

Avenge wild oat herbicide for wheat, barley and canaryseed has returned to

Canada and will be available through United Agri Products dealers.

“Avenge, a Group 8 product, will not only give growers a strong rotational choice for wild oat control in wheat, barley and canaryseed, but will do so at a price that will be fair with no hassles and paperwork.

“With a 15 percent price decrease and tank mixes with Turboprop, Salvo or Badge herbicides, Avenge will become an economical and effective one pass herbicide in wheat and barley,” said Garth Render of UAP.

Muster approved

Muster herbicide from DuPont has received minor use approval for sunflowers, giving growers a new choice for broadleaf weed control.

“Growers going after tough weeds like flixweed, hemp-nettle, stinkweed, smartweed and wild mustard in their sunflower crop should consider Muster,” says Travis Schoonbaert, DuPont’s cereals and oilseeds product manager.

Muster is a post-emergent herbicide containing ethametsulfuron-methyl

(Group 2) that can be applied when sunflowers are from the two to eight leaf stage. One package of Muster dry flowable herbicide contains four 80 gram water soluble bags that can be applied to sunflowers at a rate of eight to 12 grams per acre with a recommended non-ionic surfactant.

Spring wheat, durum wheat, barley, oats and flax can be planted on the sunflower ground treated with Muster 10 months after application. Muster is already registered for use on canola and brown and oriental mustard.

End nozzle

The XP BoomJet boomless nozzle from TeeJet produces a wide spray pattern with spray coverage up to 18.5 inches.

Using a pre-orifice design to minimize drift and unique exit orifice that provides maximum uniformity in product placement, the XP BoomJet delivers consistent distribution across the entire width of the spray.

Ideal for boomless spraying applications and for end-of-boom installations, the XP BoomJet is used for fertilizer and pesticide application on broad acre and row crops.

It is available in a range of capacities with an operating pressure range of 20 to 60 psi.

Each capacity is available for left or right side applications. The smaller capacity nozzles can be attached to the boom using a Quick TeeJet cap. All

capacities contain NPT or BSPT

male inlet thread connections.

The XP BoomJet includes a removable polymer pre-orifice for easy cleaning. The two body material options are polymer or stainless steel. They are colour-coded for quick capacity identification.

Corrosion resistant pipe

Lindsay, the makers of Zimmatic center pivots, recently introduced three new lines of pipeline for corrosive water conditions.

Corrosion-resistant alternative pipeline from Lindsay Manu-

facturing is designed for water that is acidic, alkaline or contains

chemicals.

Poly-lined:

Inserting polyethylene liner into galvanized steel pipe makes the product suitable for both low and high pH irrigation water. It has numerous uses including agriculture, food processing, chemical and municipal.

The heavy-duty, high-density polyethylene liner handles corrosive water conditions and reduces friction losses, saving money on energy costs.

Stainless steel:

A good choice for long-term use, especially under conditions in dairy farms, waste-water treatment plants, feed water heaters and evaporators and heat exchangers.

The high-alloy steel offers the highest possible level of corrosion resistance.

Aluminum:

This option offers greater flow efficiency due to the ultra-smooth interior surface.

Even in the harshest conditions, this pipe will provide superior corrosion resistance and is an option for processed water and livestock waste water applications.

This is the preferred choice

for pH levels between seven and five.
