Mower conditioner
MacDon Industries Ltd. recently introduced the 2620 mower conditioner to its Premier lineup of harvesting
equipment.
Engineered to deliver uniform, fast-drying windrows, Premier’s 2620 pull-type mower conditioner permits farmers to begin baling as quickly as possible after cutting, reducing the risk of weather-related damage.
The Premier 2620 is designed to provide gentle conditioning and fast dry down because of its non-contact intermeshing V-bar steel conditioner rolls. Each steel conditioner roll is equipped with 10 V-bars. Spaced to maintain uniform crop flow and aggressive feeding, these conditioner rolls separate when the header is raised for power-through unplugging.

The 2620 has a progressive-pitch auger, which delivers crop evenly across the entire length of the conditioner rolls. The 2620’s advanced reel design features rectangular closed section reel bats to improve reel strength and reduce crop carryover.
To allow for maximum range in cut length, the 2620 comes with manual or optional hydraulic header angle adjustment, so producers can switch between close cut and longer stubble cutting lengths.

Cat expands GPS
Caterpillar is introducing new technology on several of its control and guidance products to provide access to a broader range of GPS frequencies.
This technology takes advantage of recent enhancements to the U.S. Navstar GPS, as well as Russia’s improvements to its Glonass satellite system.
A broader range of frequencies will
allow navigation systems to use the U.S. Navstar GPS system L5 and L2C frequencies, as well as the Russian Glonass G1 and G2 signals. Customers in the northernmost and southernmost regions of the world, such as Canada, Australia and southern Africa, are expected to receive the biggest benefit and will experience dramatic improvements.
Those working in areas where line of sight to the sky is difficult, such as in dense tree-lined areas or urban sites encircled by tall buildings, will experience improved up time and capabilities.
Caterpillar owners could see increased signal strength, better signal acquisition and retention, improved initialization time and better performance in difficult conditions. The new technology will be available on Caterpillar products by the end of 2006.
