Powerful tractor

The new Massey Ferguson 400 Series tractors are heavier and more

powerful.

The MF 451 has 45 pto horsepower, MF 471 has 59 pto hp and MF 481 has

69 pto hp. All are powered by Perkins Fastram engines.

The MF 451 weighs 5,238 pounds in the four-wheel drive version and

4,738 lb. on the two-wheel drive model. It has 22.4 gpm total hydraulic

flow.

Four-wheel drive versions of the MF 471 and MF 481 weigh about 6,300

lb. and pump 24.6 gpm total hydraulic flow. They are also available in

two-wheel drive.

Turning radius is as little as 10-12 feet, and speeds range from 11/2

to 34 km-h. An optional eight forward and eight reverse synchronized

shuttle gear box is available on the 471 and 481 models.

They feature three-point hitch assembly and telescopic stabilizer bars.

Other standard features include: two-post, axle-mounted, foldable

roll-over protection; semi-flat platform; spring suspension seat;

seven-pin ASAE socket; swinging draw bar; toolbox; front-weight frame

with tow pin; pullout front grill and retractable seatbelt.

The tractors are quieter and there are new tachometers and indicator

lights.

GPS heading sensor

The new Vector line of GPS heading sensors from CSI Wireless Inc.

enables users to maintain accurate headings at substantially less than

the cost of traditional gyro compasses or of competing GPS systems.

The Vector Sensor houses the two receivers in one enclosure, and each

of the two antennas in a separate enclosure. This enables users to

increase the distance between the antennas to increase heading

accuracy, the company said.

With the antennas two metres apart, the Vector Sensor computes heading

information with better than 0.15 degrees accuracy – matching or

exceeding the accuracy of competitors’ products while being

significantly more affordable, the company said.

Vector products are capable of outputting five differentially corrected

GPS positions per second, and 10 heading information corrections per

second.

Vector’s products also have integrated micro electro mechanical system

sensors to assist in the rapid acquisition of GPS satellite signals.

And during periods of differential signal outage, Vector products use

CSI Wireless’ Coast technology that accurately predicts how errors

change over time, to create accurate positioning for up to 40 minutes.

manufacturer at 4110 Ninth St. S.E., Calgary, T2G 3G4, phone

Rotary cutter

Schulte Industries has a new rotary cutter that allows farmers to cut

ditches while keeping the tractor on the road.

The company said its new Flex-Arm increases operator safety, comfort

and performance.

There are two models, the FLX10 10 foot and FLX15 15 foot rotary cutter.

Because the tractor does not have to ride on the slope, there is less

risk of rollovers. Also, wear and tear on the tractor is reduced.

It can be used in wet conditions that would be dangerous if the tractor

had to ride on the embankment.

Visibility is also improved because the operator is placed in a better

position to view obstacles before they reach the rotary cutter.

It can be easily backed up to cut around approaches and other obstacles.

Fungicide approval

Headline fungicide from BASF has received approval for use on most

pulse crops, potatoes, wheat, barley, rye and sugar beets.

It is registered in chickpeas for ascochyta blight, lentils for

ascochyta blight and anthracnose, dry beans for rust and anthracnose,

and field peas for mycosphaerella blight and powdery mildew, the

company said.

It provides superior early blight control in potatoes as well as

consistent activity on late blight.

When applied to the surface, it moves to protect both sides of the

leaf. It binds to the waxy layer of the leaf, making it rainfast

shortly after application.
