Rugged loader
The Ford New Holland model 7514 heavy-duty loader for use with new Ford Genesis tractors is suited to feedyards and large dairies. It fits both two and four-wheel drive versions of the 8670, 8770, 8870 and 8970-model tractors. Drive-in, quick-attach mounting, or removal, takes about five minutes. Bucket, grapple fork or round bale spear can be quickly attached and then locked from the tractor seat. The 7514 loader frame is compatible with SuperSteer front axles equipped with large tires at full oscillation. It can lift one tonne nearly five metres and has a 3.3-m dump clearance. Breakout capacity is more than three tonnes. Mechanically self-leveling linkage reduces spillage in loose or runny material. The loader can be controlled with an optional hydraulic joystick.

Pea herbicide
Cyanamid Canada has announced Pursuit herbicide has been registered for use in field peas. Pursuit is a member of the imidazolinone family of chemistry (its active ingredient is imazethapyr) which stops weed growth by inhibiting an enzyme essential to plant growth, but is not present in mammals. Pursuit uses a group two mode of action for broad-spectrum, post-emergent control of grassy and broadleaf weeds including wild millet, cleavers, chickweed, hemp nettle and wild mustard in pea crops planted in the black and grey-wooded soil zones.

Livestock software
Digipac Microcomputer Software has introduced HerdBase for Windows or DOS, a powerful livestock database written in FoxPro. HerdBase can be adapted to other species besides cattle and allows farmers to: identify animals by name, tag or registration number; keep track of veterinary treatments; record an unlimited number of weights; keep track of breeding records, including links which allow tracing of an animal’s pedigree, or progeny. HerdBase uses a standard dropdown menu and is mouse compatible. It is supported by a 2400-baud (8N1) Bulletin Board System that runs from 6 p.m to 9 a.m. CST on weekdays and 24 hours a day weekends. Demonstrations can be downloaded from the BBS.
