Tidy cords and hoses
Reel-A-Pail Inc. has introduced three new reels for electrical cords, air hoses, water hoses and wire when they are used on the farm or at work sites. Three reel sizes accommodate a wide range of applications. The RAP-50, the smallest reel, will handle 7.7 metres (25 feet) of 10/3 gauge electrical cord or 7.7 metres of one cm (3/8-inch) hose. It is made of plastic so it won’t corrode or rust and measures 25X25X30 cm and weighs 2.3 kilograms.
A midsize (RAP 100) and heavy-duty (RAP 200) reel are also available. The Reel-A-Pail can be used with air compressors, paint sprayers, pressure washers, battery charges, portable fans and portable lighting equipment. Reels can be supplied separately or loaded with cord or hose. Contact: Reel-A-Pail Inc., 303 Jenks Ave., Cokato, Minn., 55321; tel. 612-286-6506; fax. 612-286-6506.

Post driver
Heppner Enterprises, of Lac La Biche, Alta., has a high-impact post driver that is clamped to the underside of the bucket on a front-end loader, on either side, or to a carrier to replace the bucket. The model handles posts up to 15 centimetres (six inches) in diameter and as long as the reach of the loader. It comes with an attachment to handle steel posts. The hammer automatically aligns itself vertically regardless of terrain.
Side movement equals 51 cm (20 in.). Two pins allow removal from the front-end loader in two parts. Two valves allow the driver to use the tractor’s hydraulic power. Contact: Heppner Enterprises, Box 248; Lac La Biche, Alta., T0A 2C0; tel. 403-623-7719.
Re-powering John Deere tractors
KINZE Power Products has started a re-powering program that upgrades the lugging power, fuel efficiency and engine accessibility of John Deere model 8400, 8600 and 8800 series four-wheel drive tractors. The original power plant is replaced with a fully warranteed Cummins re-manufactured 855 Big Cam III engine which improves fuel efficiency while generating greater power at lower r.p.m.s. The new engine is forward mounted into a 909 kg (2,000 lb.) subframe using rubber mounts.
The forward mount gives a 60-40 weight distribution, allowing smoother handling and better balance. It also gives the operator access to the engine and clutch for servicing without having to dismantle the entire front end. A forward-tilt, fibreglass hood is included in the re-power, as are new air cleaning and exhaust systems and a bigger muffler or 13-cm chrome stack. The 8430, 8440 and 8450 tractors are fitted with 300 horsepower engines; the 8630, 8640 and 8650 get 360 hp and the 8850s can be re-powered with either a 400 or 450 hp engine. New hydraulic hoses, radiator hoses, fan belts, batteries, cables and a repainted front end are included.
