Forage harvester
John Deere’s 7000 series of self-propelled forage harvesters offers six
models with more power, better operator comfort and technological
enhancements.
The models range from 315 to 640 horsepower.
The redesigned cab is quieter. Operators can sharpen knives and adjust
the shear bar and kernel processor without leaving their seat. There is
a new lighting package.
The series features a variable length-of-cut transmission that allows
operators to choose the ideal cut for their feeding needs. The system

is gear driven and hydraulically controlled.
Planetary gears drive the feed rolls, and are regulated by a
hydrostatic motor to control the feed rolls relative to cutterhead
speed.
The company says on-the-go adjustments can be made in millimetre
increments, feed rolls can be reversed without engaging the cutterhead
and knives can be sharpened at 350 rpm cutterhead speed.
A redesigned curved transition chute allows crop to follow natural
contours without plugging. The kernel processor rolls have been
realigned so the top roll is offset from the bottom roll to allow for
better crop control and feeding as the crop enters the pinch points.

New insect protection
Herculex I Insect Protection, the first in a new generation of Bt
traits for corn, has received regulatory clearance for food, feed and
environmental safety by the Canadian Food Inspection Agency and Health
Canada.
Herculex I helps corn protect itself from more insect pests than other
Bt products.
It provides enhanced protection against European corn borer, black
cutworm and fall armyworm. It also provides tolerance to Liberty
herbicide.
The Herculex I trait will be marketed in some Mycogen branded hybrids
from Dow AgroSciences and Pioneer branded hybrids from Pioneer Hi-Bred.
An insect resistance management program has been developed for growers.
For more information, contact a Mycogen or Pioneer seed dealer.
Track undercarriage
Bron’s new rubber track undercarriages improve flotation and provide a
smooth ride over soft, uneven ground.
The tracks are appropriate for grain buggies, dump boxes, sprayers and
manure tanks and can be custom designed.
The wide tracks reduce soil compaction. They are available in 20 to 40
tonne capacities and come with a track-type loader undercarriage,
oscillating track frames, sealed bearings, and heavy duty fabricated
steel track frames with quick change universal attachment point.
