Application system option

Morris Industries has introduced variable rate technology as an option for its 7000 series air carts. The system is designed to allow farmers to vary the application rate of fertilizer or seed from the tractor cab with the press of a button.

Application rates can be altered on-the-go in increments of five percent to a maximum of 50 percent of the base rate.

It has sensors that monitor all shaft rotation, bin levels, fan speed, ground speed, acres seeded and application rates per acre. The system senses the ground speed of the unit and adjusts the metering system 20 times per second to ensure accurate meter rates. It is available with Morris’ 180, 240, and 300 bushel tow-between and tow-behind air carts and is equipped to accept a third tank.

Precision farming unit

A new guidance product for precision farming systems promises an easier to read display unit.

Contour and Marker, from Position Inc. of Calgary, offers what the company calls virtual view technology.

Most guidance systems use light-bar displays to guide equipment operators. Marker’s virtual view display is a high contrast, black and white video display mounted on the dash and is designed to be readable even in bright sunlight.

Marker presents a real-time “moving highway” to guide the operator through equally spaced swaths. Comparable to a video game, Marker anticipates steering corrections to improve accuracy.

Contour has a color display and allows operation at night when the wind is low. If operations are interrupted, its “return-to-point” feature guides you back to the last spot covered.

It guides straight or curved, equally spaced swaths. Its automatic obstacle avoidance feature helps to guide around rocks, weed patches and fences that have been identified during the initial set-up or tagged while in the field.

Contour also provides office software. It has a simulator that can be used for in-office training. It also generates maps, job reports and regulatory compliance reports.
