Heavy-duty engine oil

Imperial Oil Ltd. has introduced it’s “next generation” of Esso XD-3 Extra Heavy Duty engine oils. The new line of oils exceeds new CG-4 performance standards for diesel engines due to come into effect in January of 1995. The new engine oils focus on “stay-in-grade” stability and longer life. Imperial technical specialist Werner Dewald explains: “Some oils break down under the stress of heavy service and lose control of their viscosity. This means an oil that starts as a 15W-40 could thin out into a 15W-30. Or it might go the other way and thicken up to a straight 50-grade.” To accomplish this, XD-3 is enriched with oxidation inhibitors and soot and sludge dispersants. The XD line covers a full range of single and multigrades, for two and four-cycle diesel, as well as gasoline, engines. Contact: Imperial Oil Ltd., 111 St. Clair Ave. W., Toronto, Ont. Rumensin approved

The Bureau of Veterinary Drugs has approved Rumensin for use in dairy replacement heifers. Trial data shows that heifers fed Rumensin grow more than eight percent faster than control animals, allowing them to reach breeding weight earlier. The sooner and animal can be bred, the sooner she can start earning income by producing milk.
