Side-pull mower conditioners

John Deere has three new mower conditioners, the 525, 530 and 535, with working widths of nine feet, two inches; nine feet, nine inches; and 11 feet, six inches, respectively.

These units, which replace the 916, 926 and 936 mower conditioners, have a transport width equal to their cutting width, making transport easier on narrow roads.

The cutter bar angle adjustment has been moved to the left side of the machine to improve access. New hitch options include clevis, equal angle ball joint and swivel hitch.

The new platform flotation system ensures constant ground pressure.

VIDEO: Green Lightning and Nytro Ag win sustainability innovation award

Nytro Ag Corp and Green Lightning recieved an innovation award at Ag in Motion 2025 for the Green Lightning Nitrogen Machine, which converts atmospheric nitrogen into a plant-usable form.

There are two crop-conditioning choices: impeller and urethane rolls. The impeller mowers have a hand crank that adjusts the aggressiveness of conditioning. A special sight gauge indicates the level of conditioning.

The 530 and 535 mowers have urethane roll conditioners. Pressure can be adjusted with a wrench on each side of the conditioning rolls.

There are also adjustable forming shields that pivot and adjust the width of the windrow from narrow to wide.

Improved lightbar

Case IH has improved its new EZ-Guide Plus lightbar.Ê

The unit has traditional lightbar guidance LED lights, as well as a sunlight-readable graphical LCD screen.

The 160 by 120 pixel screen allows for simplified set-up, continuous situation monitoring and improved guidance in curves and during end-of-row turns.

It can be switched between four text-based screens, a plan view map or a perspective view map.

The lightbar uses differential global positioning system information to display how far to the left or right an operator might be from the desired path. Depending on the operator’s equipment needs, the lightbar is available with or without an integrated, 12-channel GPS receiver that uses the free WAAS differential correction.

Three integrated buttons provide a simple interface for all configurations and operations. An optional six-button keypad improves convenience and ease of operation and includes an audible warning alarm to alert operators when they drift from the swath, cross the headland or lose the DGPS correction signal.ÊÊ

Self-propelled mower

The Claas Cougar self-propelled mower with five Disco mowers provides a 45-foot mowing width to improve capacity and minimize compaction.

It is equipped with a 12 litre, 480-horsepower Daimler Chrysler engine.

Parallel hydrostatic motors transfer the power mechanically to the all-wheel drive axles. Universal drive shaft technology delivers power to the mower units with virtually no loss of power, the company said.

Each of the five mowing units is independently driven and can be raised and lowered for tight corners. The automatic hydropneumatic relief system controls the ground adaptation of the mowers, ensuring even cutting.

Mowing units fold automatically for a transport width of 10 feet. The cab rotates 180 degrees for transport so the mowing units are behind the operator.

The Cougar also features steer-by-wire electrohydraulic all-wheel steering for maneuverability and performance. An on-board computer provides the operator with information to manage the mowing system.

The Cougar has a working speed up to 21 km-h and has a road transport speed of 40 km-h.
