Banding system
Bourgault Industries has introduced two new products, an NH3 mid-row banding system and a metering auger that measures and mixes seed treatments.
The mid-row banding system is available for 5710 air hoe drills and 8810 cultivators. The coulter-type system was previously approved only for liquid and dry fertilizers. Now it can accommodate anhydrous ammonia.
The unit places fertilizer midway between seed rows with little seedbed disturbance. The fertilizer is far enough away not to damage the seed. The company says it is particularly useful in dry springs and when seeding smaller seeded crops such as canola and flax.

Metering auger
The Precision Displacement Meter is a response to the effect of friction in the metering process.
Because seed and fertilizer can vary in density, ease of flow, treatments and coats, various batches can meter in different ways.
The PDM has two sections. The metering unit draws treatment product through a thin orifice into the main length of the meter. Changes in rate are accomplished by changing the auger’s speed. The second part of the unit has a larger diameter where the treatment mixes with the seed.

New website
There is a new window on United States grain policy on the internet.
U.S. Wheat Associates, the export market development arm of 18 U.S. state grower organizations, has a site at www.uswheat.org.
The site includes the association’s newsletters that report on market and trade issues.
It also has links to USDA wheat export data.
Product registration
Dupont has received registration for two new products.
It has approval for a 300 grams per acre rate of Benlate for control of sclerotinia stem rot in canola.
Benlate is a systemic fungicide that controls several disease in a range of crops. Dupont now has registration for use of Benlate at three rates appropriate for various levels of disease severity.
The company also has registration for Assure II. At a reduced rate, the product controls annual grasses such as wild oats, barnyard grass, green foxtail and volunteer barley and wheat and season-long control of quackgrass in canola, flax, peas, lentils and seed alfalfa.
The registration allows one case to treat 40 acres, compared to original Assure which treated 20 acres.
There is also a new adjuvant, Sure-Mix.

Soil aerator
Holland Equipment has introduced heavy-duty, folding wing soil aerators.
The Aerway has shatter tines with a patented twist. They cut into soil, lifting and shattering it without affecting crop residue on the surface. This increases air and water
infiltration.
The units come in 25 and 30-foot lengths. The centre section is 15 feet wide. The units can have a rigid suspension or the company’s optional C-Flex suspension designed for rocky soils.
