Feed additive
Canadian pork producers now have access to a new feed ingredient additive designed to increase production while maintaining meat quality. Paylean, recently approved for use in Canada, directs nutrients to ensure that feed is converted to weight more efficiently. Also known as ractopamine, Paylean is a member of the class of compounds called phenethanolamines. It is recommended for use 28 days before slaughter and has no withdrawal requirements.
Paylean is not an antibiotic and has no antimicrobial activities. It is not approved for use with any other medicating ingredients and the addition of any therapeutic ingredient to Paylean requires a veterinary prescription.
Because it contributes to improved use of nutrients, pigs fed Paylean typically produce less manure. For more information, contact an authorized feed dealer or visit www.elanco.com.
Rodent control
The Ratzapper is designed to quickly and humanely kill rats and mice using bait and electricity. Rodents enter the rectangular chamber and are killed in less than half a second. There is no mess to clean up and unlike poisons, the trap is safe to use in any area, even around children or pets. When the rodents are killed, the trap is turned off and its contents dumped into the garbage. The trap is then rebaited and reactivated.
The Ratzapper runs on four AA batteries and eliminated rodents in an area as large as 135 sq. metres.
