ATV attachment
Four-wheel-drive all terrain vehicles are becoming the workhorse of many farms.
Darin Hubscher, a Swan River, Man. farmer, has invented a four-foot, seven shank cultivator attachment with spring-loaded harrows for ATVs.
It’s designed for cultivating in shelterbelts, gardens and yards.
Called the Quadivator it hitches to ATVs with a simple drop-in pin and plug-in wire. It is raised on its wheels with an electric actuator running off the ATV’s battery. A hand-cranked model is also available.
Other attachments are a potato hiller that attaches to the two centre shanks and a box scraper and mounts on the back shanks.

New fungicide
Rovral Flo fungicide has a new registration for suppression of alternaria black spot as well as sclerotinia stem rot.
It can be applied by ground or air, is one-hour rainfast and comes in a liquid formula. For ground application apply at least 500 grams of active ingredient per hectare in 100 litres of water per hectare. For aerial application use 45 litres of water per hectare.
Rovral is made by Rhone-Poulenc.
Sclerotinia stem rot detector
DuPont has introduced a kit called Alert for the early detection of sclerotinia stem rot in canola and dry beans.
The kit has a disease detector. The test involves grinding plant leaves and treating them with several solutions provided in the kit. The process takes about 10 minutes and several tests can be run at the same time.
The test can give early warning that the disease is present, allowing growers to spray a fungicide.
The Alert kit is available at farm retailers across the Prairies. More information is available by calling DuPont’s hotline at 888-stemrot (888-783-6768).
