VIDEO: Green Lightning and Nytro Ag win sustainability innovation award
Nytro Ag Corp and Green Lightning recieved an innovation award at Ag in Motion 2025 for the Green Lightning Nitrogen Machine, which converts atmospheric nitrogen into a plant-usable form.
George Hunter has developed a sharpener for livestock clipper blades that could be of interest to ranchers, veterinarians and pet groomers.
Regular grinders are not appropriate for sharpening clippers because of the inconsistency of the surface.
Hunter’s sharpening wheel is machined to within 1/1,000 of an inch.
The machine can be purchased whole or parts can be ordered for those who already have a suitable small electric motor.

Michelin ag radials
Michelin agricultural tires are now available on Case IH Magnum MC tractors.
The Michelin Agribib and XM28 tire are radials, designed to increase traction, improve flotation and reduce soil compaction.
The Agribib is a standard profile, R1W deep-lug, all-round service radial.
The SM28 is a large volume radial engineered for tractors with more than 160 horsepower. The large, rectangular contact patch with deep lugs provides extra grip and minimal slippage.

Fusarium fighter
Folicur, a fungicide that combats fusarium head blight, has again been granted an emergency use permit in Saskatchewan and Manitoba.
Made by Bayer, it contains tebuconazole and is registered for use on all wheat varieties.
Fusarium is an increasing problem in Manitoba and Saskatchewan. In addition to yield loss, producers suffer grade loss due to mycotoxins such as deoxynivalenol in affected wheat. The disease is activated when surviving fungus in stubble becomes wet during showers. Warm, humid weather also encourages spore development.
If these conditions occur during heading and flowering, the crop can become infected.
Bayer recommends spraying when the heads have fully emerged and are 25-50 percent flowering.
Manitoba Agriculture regularly produces a fusarium risk forecast map and publishes it on its website at www.gov.mb.ca/agriculture/.
The company says tests in Canada show Folicur consistently reduces DON levels by about 50 percent.
“While Folicur will not solve the problem of fusarium, it will help wheat producers maintain a viable market for their crop,” said Gary Platford, a plant pathologist with Manitoba Agriculture.
He recommends using the product only on wheat varieties rated as having fair or poor resistance to the disease.
