Quadris fungicide

Quadris, a foliar fungicide from Syngenta, has received an emergency

use registration for control of ascochyta blight in chickpeas in

Saskatchewan.

The approval was granted by the Pest Management Regulatory Agency in

response to a request from Saskatchewan Agriculture.

Quadris is not a cure-all for ascochyta, which is a highly mobile,

aggressive disease.

“It’s important to begin scouting at the seedling stage for signs of

disease,” said Penny Pearse, provincial plant disease specialist.

“To gain proper control of ascochyta, a fungicide application is

recommended once symptoms are found.”

Quadris is a strobilurin, which is a new class of foliar fungicide that

uses systemic action to move through the plant’s xylem and protect it

from the inside out.

Once applied, Quadris will move through into new growth. It’s effective

during the vegetative stages of plant development when growth is most

rapid. If the disease is controlled at this stage, the risk of late

season infection is reduced.

Saddle system

The Korrector is a British-made system of air bags designed to replace

the flocking used in conventional saddles.

It provides a soft, flexible surface without pressure points, and

benefits the horse by increasing the bearing surface of the saddle’s

panel.

Four air bags are fitted over a foam insert inside two pockets, one on

each side of the saddlecloth’s spine. There are a pair of front bags

and a pair of back bags. When used together the bags overlap.

The foam insert compresses under the movement of the horse’s muscles,

moulding to the horse’s shape and absorbing the shock of the horse and

rider’s movement.

The rider uses a pump and valves to adjust the bags to gain the correct

ride, height and balance of the saddle while mounted on the horse.
