Post flood help

People cleaning up after flooding might consider Barn Fresh, a natural product that controls ammonia, odor and absorbs its own weight in liquid.

The product, from Western Industrial Clay Products Ltd. in British Columbia, is half diatomaceous earth and half montmorillonite clay, a high volume, low weight mixture. The company says the product has a pH level of five and neutralizes ammonia without chemicals.

Sediments left after a flood often contain sewage, manure from farm pits and other organic material that produces foul odors. Barn Fresh is designed to lock up organic material in liquid sediments and allow for its safe removal.

The product can also be used as part of a regular ammonia control program in barns.

The company says Barn Fresh has many of the benefits of lime, but none of the caustic dangers. It will not damage rubber, wood, steel or concrete.
