Insurance appraisers

A new company has been created to provide independent, professional appraisals for crop and hail insurance claims.

Anchor Independent Crop and Hail Adjusters Bureau, Inc. is an employee-owned, federally registered company with its headquarters in Regina and adjusters in all three prairie provinces and the Peace River region.

The company does not sell insurance and is independent of insurance companies.

Anchor adjusters will assess the farmer’s insurance claim and submit the proof of loss form. Its goal is to respond quickly to farmer calls.

Sprayer attachment

MacDon has introduced a high-capacity field sprayer attachment for use with its turbo windrower tractors.

Removing the header and mounting the sprayer on the front of the tractor using the existing linkage system can be done quickly.

The 625 attachment features a three-section breakaway boom designed with a front-mounted 1,514-litre tank plus a 568-litre auxiliary tank.

The coverage is 90 feet or 27.4 metres. The boom height can be adjusted from 24 to 80 inches (61 to 204 centimetres.)

The two speed hydrostatic drive can perform up to a maximum of 26 kilometres per hour.

There are radar speed sensors that can be monitored from the cab.

The 625 folds to four metres (13 feet) in width for road transport.

MacDon self-propelled windrowers are distributed in Western Canada by New Holland, John Deere and Westward dealers.

Pioneer Hi-Bred inoculant

Early results from a feeding trial study shows Pioneer Hi-Bred’s Sila-Bac 1127 grass and cereal inoculant on barley silage can improve cattle performance.

The 84-day study at Agriculture Canada’s research centre in Lethbridge, Alta., involved 40 cattle. Each had an initial weight of about 530 lbs. Barley silage represented 80 percent of their diets. Half were given silage treated with Sila-Bac 1127.

The weight gain with treated silage was 1.8 lb. per day versus 1.7 lb. per day with untreated silage.

Dry matter digestion improved to 63.5 percent versus 54 percent for untreated silage.

The product is available in granular and water-soluble formulations. It allows ensiling at up to 80 percent moisture in bunker silos and 70 percent in concrete tower silos.

Mower conditioner

MacDon has re-engineered its 5010 mower conditioner to deliver more uniform, faster-drying windrows.

Key to the performance is the progressive pitch auger that delivers crop evenly over the entire length of the conditioner roll. The new reel design features rectangular closed section reel bats for improved reel strength and reduced crop carry over.

There are improved feed paddles and a redesigned stripper bar. The non-contact intermeshing spiral steel conditioner rolls provide positive crimping action for aggressive yet gentle conditioning.
