Mower

Vermeer has introduced the 8030 Gator Mower.

The leading edge of the cutterbar is reinforced throughout, yet tapered

for close, clean-cutting action, enabling the 8030 to reduce streaking

and improve performance across a wider variety of crops and conditions.

The 8030 cuts a swath 10.5 feet wide with a minimum 80 horsepower

tractor (Cat.II, three point hitch), and requires one auxiliary

single-acting hydraulic remote.

Cutting heights range from 11/4 to 21/2 inches; optional topping shoes

allow it to be raised up to 37/8 inches. The heavy-duty cutting discs

are one third thicker than some competitive models. The

shatter-resistant cutting knives are austemper heat-treated. The knife

bolts have added protection, making them easier to replace or reverse.

Double-wide skids reduce “pinch point” problems caused by rocks.

Bi-shaft cutterbar design provides the advantages of a hex shaft drive

for easier servicing without the disadvantages of multi-shaft backlash,

which tends to weaken the cutterbar.

The 8030 also features a heavy-duty gearbox housing, reinforced with

boxed section gussets.

Curtain protection consists of strong, lightweight Kevlar material.

A spring-loaded trip-and-slide enables the frame to break away when

encountering large, immovable obstacles. The enclosed, deep-seated

V-belt drive system provides slip protection for mower and tractor.

Air drill

Morris Industries’ new Xpress double disc air drill can be used in any

till or no-till operation.

It offers minimum soil disturbance, uniform seedbed depth and gentle

seed placement with on-row packing. The double disc openers are

parallel link mounted to ensure uniform seed depth across the machine.

No tools are need to set the seeding depth on each opener for different

soil and residue conditions. They come with up to 250 pounds of down

force to cut through trash.

Soil control devices attached next to each opener blade minimize soil

blowout.

The staggered opener assemblies slice through pulse vines and wheat

stubble. Morris says the disc’s rudder-like effect practically

eliminates skewing on side hills.

The Xpress is fed with a Morris 7180 or 7240 tow-between air cart.

Spiral fluted metering wheels that can handle a full range of seed

varieties constantly feed seed into the air stream.

Flat fan divider heads provide an accurate and efficient air system

that gently delivers seed to each opener.

It comes in 30 or 40 foot widths.

The unit folds forward for storage and transportation. Hydraulic

controls are on the back of the air cart for an unobstructed view of

the unit.

Guidance system

The American Society of Agricultural Engineers has included the Outback

S, GPS guidance system in its list of the top 50 agricultural products

introduced in 2000.

The Outback S uses global positioning to provide driving guidance. In

addition to traditional crosstrack, the device adds a steering guide

that gives the operator a heading instead of a course error-based

correction. This improves the driver’s ability to follow a contour

line. The unit uses controller area network protocol for add-ons and

outputs National Marine Electronics Association data packets for other

applications. For information contact Outback Canada at 3244 Portage

Ave. Winnipeg, Man. R3K 0Y9 or phone 888-866-4472.
