Hog feeder

Koenders Manufacturing Co. of Englefeld, Sask. has introduced a feeder specially designed for hog barns.

The Hog-o-matic is made with lightweight polyethylene.

The units are designed for easy, quick installation and can be mounted back-to-back, allowing one downspout with a deflector to fill two feeders. The feed flow is adjustable by hand.

The feed pan is tapered to reduce waste and divided to help deter competition between animals.

The compact hopper reduces stale feed buildup. One unit will serve a pen of about 20 hogs.

Seeding website

A producer can find many answers to questions about direct seeding from other farmers.

The Alberta Reduced Tillage Initiative has recognized this by developing a direct seeding discussion group on the worldwide web.

To get more information, go to the group’s homepage at http://paridss.usask.ca/consgroups/arti/index.htm and click on “direct seeding discussion group.”

The home page has facts about direct seeding, answers to questions and a list of coming events. Through e-mail, farmers can discuss direct seeding with virtually anyone.

A computer equipped with a modem, e-mail software and an e-mail account are required.

Resuscitator

Ram-Bull Ltd., of Barons, Alta., has introduced a new resuscitator designed to inflate the lungs of newborn animals which have a heartbeat but are unable to breathe.

The Constant Delivery Animal Resuscitator has two plastic cylinders that draw air through an induction valve at one end and direct it to the animal through a face mask.

A bi-directional valve allows the animal to exhale without the farmer having to remove the mask.

For more information, contact a livestock equipment dealer or Ram-Bull at 1-403-757-3744.
