Convert to tracks

Caterpillar Industrial Products, Inc. has introduced the Cat Mobil-trac system for original equipment which bridges the gap between rubber tires and steel tracks. Mobil-trac offers the flotation, stability and traction of tracks and the speed and mobility of tires. Pure friction drive means operation is smooth and quiet and transmission of drawbar pull is more efficient. Greater ground contact provides less slippage, which improves traction and fuel economy. Less slip also allows higher effective ground speeds. Lower ground pressure results in higher flotation and less soil compaction. Surface disturbance is also reduced, causing minimal rutting even in the poorest underfooting. The systems are offered in three free-wheeling, non-powered models or three powered models which feature a direct-drive, radial-piston hydrostatic motor. Power can be two-wheel drive or all-wheel drive.

Prevail registered

DowElanco has registered a new herbicide that offers one-pass, season-long control of Canada thistle, sow thistle, wild oats and millet in wheat and barley. Prevail is absorbed and translocated quickly from the leaves through to the roots of the weeds, controlling growth throughout the growing season as compared to top-growth control only. Window of application for wild oat control is the two-six leaf stage. Best control of thistles is achieved if applied during the rosette stage when weeds are actively growing.

Smaller fan sizes

Del-Air Systems Ltd. has launched two smaller capacity fans for confinement barns. The Northwind 6K axial fan is designed to move 6,000 cubic feet of air per minute and the Northwind 4K, 4,000 cubic feet of air per minute. The design of the Northwind fans gives priority to the volume of air they exhaust, rather than to the standard size opening. They are constructed with the Del-Air “double-walled” housing which insulates the fan and prevents freeze-up.
