Air to the rescue

An animal resuscitator is being marketed by Elmira Artificial Breeding Corp. of Elmira, Ont. and ABS Global Inc. of DeForest, Wis. The resuscitator is designed to stimulate breathing by inflating the lungs of newborn calves that are born with a beating heart, but can’t breathe due to stress at birth. Two plastic cylinders act like a piston by drawing air through induction valves at one end and directing it through a face mask at the other end via a regulator valve.

This hand-held design delivers a constant volume of air, irrespective of the user’s hand size or any learned technique and is proven to stimulate breathing with as few as five to 10 pumps. It is more effective than mouth-to-mouth resuscitation because it uses ambient air with more available oxygen and lessens the health risk to the user. The resuscitator was developed in New Zealand by McCulloch Medical.

Pea tank mix

Bayer Inc. has registered a new broadleaf herbicide combination – Sencor + MCPA sodium salt. The new tank mix gives pea growers the option to use a lower rate of both products, which results in improved crop safety for field peas at a lower cost. MCPA sodium salt alone has been known to cause damage to peas, especially when used at high rates.

The mix provides control of lamb’s-quarters, stinkweed, redroot pigweed, wild mustard and volunteer canola in peas. It can be used following a pre-emergent or prior to a post-emergent grass control product. The Sencor + MCPA sodium salt combination does not affect crop rotation options.

Hydraulic winch

Scott’s Manufacturing and Repair of Landa, N.D. has developed an easy, reliable and safe way to hook up large or double NH3 tanks to both air seeders and cultivators.

The SM&R hydraulic-powered winch avoids winch burnout associated with electric winches. The hitch is designed to self-align and lock down for easy pin insertion. The winch can be built to fit nearly all air seeders and cultivators with easy bolt-on installation. The winches weigh about 54 kilograms, so can be easily shipped.

Two models are available, with or without the free spooling wheel.
