CanaMaize Seed has introduced a new short-season dwarf grain corn originally developed by Agriculture Canada for prairie conditions. The seed is sold out for 1999.
Canamaize is seeded and harvested with traditional cereal grains equipment.
The crop matures in about 100 days and requires less than 2,000 heat units.
The company says the variety economically outperforms barley thanks to higher yield and the traditionally higher price for corn.

Non-selective herbicide introduced
Nufarm Agriculture has introduced Amitrol 240, a non-selective herbicide for annual and perennial weed control.
Amitrol 240 is a new formulation containing 20 percent more active ingredient than Amitrol T. This allows treatment of more acres per container and lower cost.
Amitrol 240 is registered for use as a tank mix with Roundup as a preseeding treatment in corn, white beans and soybeans.
The product prevents chlorophyll development in perennial and annual weeds such as dandelions, quackgrass and Canada thistle. It also controls horsetail in non-cropped areas.
