New fertilizer knife
Harvestechnologies, (formerly Atom-Jet Industries) has introduced a new fertilizer knife for banding anhydrous ammonia.
The Blade is designed to provide low disturbance and eliminate “puffing” and freezing.
It has a carbide tip for soil penetration and long life.
Only one-half inch wide (1.25 centimetres), the Blade promotes quick sealing and prevents escape of NH3 into the air.

Cow detectors and coats
Select Sires has introduced new products for dairy cattle and calves and lambs.
The Bovine Beacon standing heat detector lights up once the cow has been mounted.
The diamond-shaped detector sticks on the cow’s back. It has an ampule filled with a luminescent chemical that is activated by mounting. It glows red and can be seen in the daylight.
The manufacturer says the unit has a shelf life of five years and is not affected by temperature.
To prevent cattle from biting and licking the detectors, they are sprayed with a nontoxic, bitter chemical.
Select Sires also markets the Woolover, a wool coat for newborn lambs and calves.
Developed in New Zealand, the coats come in designs suitable for lambs, dairy calves and beef calves.
The beef style is called Fit ‘n’ Forget. It keeps the calf warm for several weeks and then falls off.
The covers help prevent scours and pneumonia in severe weather, the company says.
