Working with the wind

Bourgault’s new Series II Clear View air curtain sprayer is the next generation in this line of high-tech equipment. The Series II sprayers have been designed for aerodynamics using computer modeling. They were tested in wind tunnels and the field. Independent wind tunnel testing showed drift reductions of 97 percent with the XR11002 tips compared to an open boom and 92 percent with the XR8002 tips.

The design of this sprayer scoops the wind and redirects it downward into the crop, ensuring the spray pattern reaches its target with minimal disturbance. An unobstructed view of the nozzle tips allows users to check from the tractor.

MISTer technology offers a system for controlling temperature, humidity, dust, odors and pests to the poultry and hog industries without traditional problems of wetting and residual moisture.

The MISTer system takes ordinary water, treats and filters it and then pumps it through a one-centimetre stainless steel tube or hose at 600-1000 psi. MISTer nozzles situated on the tubing atomize the water into billions of micron-size particles which flash evaporate, instantly cooling hot air.

The nozzles offer low-volume flow rates, and high rates of forward discharge velocity – causing high turbulence and uniform particle distribution.

A control module maintains the system’s operating pressure, filters the water supply and activates the nozzles based on signals received from a sensor. Neutralizers can be injected into the system to control odor.
