Inoculant website

PhilomBios Inc. is sponsoring a new website dedicated to informing farmers and ag retailers about inoculants.

The site is not exclusively dedicated to the sponsor’s products. The goal is to be a clearinghouse of information on all inoculants, said Sanford Gleddie, of PhilomBios.

The site now carries articles on choosing the right inoculant for the crop, the benefits of pulses in a crop rotation and how inoculants work.

Using a database of research and on-farm trials, the website can calculate the profits that can be realized from using inoculants.

Amitrol 240

Nufarm Agriculture has a new pre-seeding burndown registration for Amitrol 240 in wheat, barley, canola and field peas.

The manufacturer says the product is particularly good for affordable control of dandelions and other annual and perennial weeds.

When tank-mixed with glyphosate, it helps control quackgrass and other grassy weeds. It is absorbed by leaves and translocated up and down the plant. Complete kill takes 14-28 days. The company is doing research on using Amitrol 240 to control volunteer Roundup Ready canola.

Seed treatment

Novartis has a new formulation for Dividend SL RTA, making it easier to handle and apply.

The “prairie friendly” formulation is designed for treating cold or frozen seed, maintaining uniform seed coverage, free-flowing seed, minimal dust-off and reduced buildup on equipment.

The product provides protection for 10 seed and soil-borne diseases.

Silo unloader

Val Metal has a new silo unloader-distributor.

The 880SK has been designed to increase unloading efficiency and require fewer repairs.

The fiberglass discharge chute with a stainless steel liner has a slippery finish with a new slope angle for improved silage flow.

The improved 26-inch blower assembly has stainless steel impeller paddles with air intakes, also to improve silage flow.

Six self-sharpening hardened steel blades on the chipper and a 10-inch auger with sharp cutting knives moves even frozen silage to the centre impeller, the company says. The impeller is driven by a heavy-duty gearbox.

There are four control panel options.

It also can be transformed in minutes into a silage distributor.

Direct seeding manual

The Prairie Farm Machinery Institute has released an update of its direct seeding manual.

It includes the latest data on seed-placed fertilizer, a new section on how to choose equipment and a reference list of manufacturers that are building direct seeding machinery.

PAMI collected the information by teaming up with 20 leading researchers and surveying 39 direct-seeding farmers.

The 160-page book has color photos and illustrations. For more information, contact PAMI at 800-567-7264 or by e-mail at humboldt@pami.ca or visit the website at www.pami.ca.

Western Plastics has a new line of vented pallet stretch films. Air-Flow, used in agricultural product packing, has die-cut holes to reduce spoilage and ensure even cooling.

It replaces pallet netting and gives users the same advantages of conventional pallet stretch wrap.

Standard and high-performance machine-grade films are available.
