Clamp-on lights

Cross Country Electric has introduced clamp-on lighting packages for farm implements.

Traditional lighting from the tractor has become inadequate when using larger implements and longer, multiple implement towlines.

Cross Country can build weather tight lighting for air seeder tanks, cultivators and other implements.

VIDEO: Green Lightning and Nytro Ag win sustainability innovation award

Nytro Ag Corp and Green Lightning recieved an innovation award at Ag in Motion 2025 for the Green Lightning Nitrogen Machine, which converts atmospheric nitrogen into a plant-usable form.

“Over the past two years, Agrevo has urged farmers to increase their use rate of Liberty herbicide to 1.35 litres per acre,” said Brian Toole, the company’s market manager for Liberty.

“This compares with an average use rate of one litre per acre in 1996 and 1.2 litres in 1997.

“By recommending the 1.35 litre rate as standard, we anticipate farmers will see greater and more consistent weed control over a wide range of growing conditions.”

The price of the chemical has been reduced to make the higher per acre rate application cost about the same as last year, he added.

The new weeds covered are barnyard grass, roundleaf mallow, cow cockle, dandelion, flixweed, scentless chamomile, stork’s bill and non-Liberty Link volunteer canola.

Liberty will come in a larger container this year – 13.5 litres for 10 acres. The old 10.8 litre containers will do eight acres.

New herbicide package

Dow Agro Sciences has received registration for Prestige, a package of herbicides including clopyralid, fluroxypyr and MCPA ester.

It is registered for post-emergent control of cleavers, Canada thistle, perennial sow thistle, wild buckwheat and most broadleaf weeds in cereals.

The company says Prestige has a Group 4 mode of action, giving growers an alternative broadleaf herbicide to Group 2 products.

The company is pursuing registration for tank mixes with several popular grassy weed herbicides to broaden its spectrum of control.

Tank mix approval

Accord herbicide from BASF and Cyanamid’s Avenge have been approved for tank mix to control green foxtail and wild oats.

Unavailable in 1997, Avenge is back this year and is the only Group 8 post-emergent herbicide for cereal crops. Accord, a Group 4 herbicide, was registered in 1997 for control of foxtail including Group 1 and Group 3 herbicide resistant foxtail, said BASF in a news release.

Over-reliance on Group 1 and Group 3 herbicides is contributing to the rise of herbicide resistant weeds on the Prairies. A one-in-three year rotation is recommended by weed specialists to prevent development of resistance.

The new Avenge/Accord tank mix can be partnered with Buctril M, MCPA ester, 2,4-D ester and Refine Extra, the company said.

One pass weed control

Dupont has introduced Harmony Total, a package of Refine Extra for broadleaf weed control and Horizon W.O. for wild oat control.

Dupont said in a news release that Harmony promises one pass weed control in spring wheat and durum. The package is measured for 40 acres and contains a 3.7 litre jug of Horizon W.O, a 320 gram pouch of Refine Extra and two 6.4 litre jugs of Score adjuvant.
