The biggest dinosaur
Down in Oklahoma they have discovered the remains of a dinosaur that weighed an estimated 60 tonnes and stood 18 metres high. It lived about 110 million years ago so you can’t use it to scare your kids at bedtime.
That animal would have been several times bigger than Henry Janzen’s new combine. Wow.
Being that big would have its disadvantages.
It would be difficult to sneak around if the earth shook every time you put your foot down.
Mind you, the beast probably lived off tree branches and other vegetation so sneaking wouldn’t be a high priority.

Agriculture needs to prepare for government spending cuts
As government makes necessary cuts to spending, what can be reduced or restructured in the budgets for agriculture?
But what if a pesky prehistoric terrier came along and bit the dinosaur in its ankle? How quickly could it swing its head down from 18 metres to ankle level to deal with the pugnacious dog?
The scientists who made the discovery said the dinosaur, which they dubbed a Sauroposeidon, had an extremely long neck.
The bones they assembled indicated it was by far the biggest prehistoric animal yet identified. I imagine when it finally collapsed and died, it provided lunch for many hundreds of animal scavengers, as well as tens of thousands of birds, insects and bacteria.
Now I’m beginning to wonder as the generations pass if man
isn’t heading in the same direction as the Sauroposeidon.
Each generation seems to be trending upward in height. These basketball, football and hockey players are becoming more monstrously big as the decades pass. I have grandsons that make me look like a runt.
None of them appear likely to grow six storeys high but a few million years down the pike, who knows what may transpire?
So far they don’t seem to be getting any longer in the neck.
