Ever see something that you thought would make a great photo for our paper? Do you perhaps carry a camera in your pickup’s glove compartment for those “just in case” shots?
Since our staff can’t be everywhere on the prairies, we encourage people to send their photos and we pay on publication.
If you’re interested in submitting photos for publication, you might look for people or animals engaged in some agricultural activity, as they are more appealing than horizons or other static scenes.
Photos should be focused, not too dark, not too cluttered, and shouldn’t have awkward backgrounds like telephone poles growing out of people’s heads.

Late season rainfall creates concern about Prairie crop quality
Praying for rain is being replaced with the hope that rain can stop for harvest. Rainfall in July and early August has been much greater than normal.
Provide as much detail as possible – when the photo was taken, names of the people in it, what breeds animals are, what the people are doing, and who took the photo.
If a picture is worth a thousand words, think what the message in your photo is, and give us the information. It’s better to send too much than too little.
Double-check spelling of names and other facts.
We accept black-and-white or color prints, or slides of any type, or negatives. All are returned after use.
We pay $20 to $40 for black-and-white, $35 to $100 for color photos depending on quality, size when published, where they are used in the paper, and how much information accompanies the photo.
Pictures should be recent. If it’s timely (e.g. seeding, harvest photos) the time frame is less than a month. If it’s a more general type of picture, we will accept photos that are a bit older. Please don’t send outdated photos or resend photos annually to see if we changed our minds.
