This week’s paper includes a notice inviting people to take advantage of some of the free services we offer in our paper and magazine.
Have a fair or rodeo coming up? Need to use our Mailbox column? Perhaps you’re planning a stock sale? Know of any other coming events you want people to be aware of?
We welcome your submissions, and will publish them without charge.
Sent them to our news editor, Barb Glen, by mail (Box 2500, Saskatoon, Sask. S7K 2C4) or fax (306-934-2401). Provide as much information as possible, including who, what, where and when. A contact name is crucial.

Topsy-turvy precipitation this year challenges crop predictions
Rainfall can vary dramatically over a short distance. Precipitation maps can’t catch all the deviations, but they do provide a broad perspective.
Whether you’re planning a reunion for your community this summer or you’ve finally decided it’s time to sell those purebred heifers all at once, remember to give us plenty of notice: it may take two weeks or longer before your item appears. In the case of Mailbox items, note that they appear only once.
Sending in notice of coming events (meetings, conferences, etc.) is valuable in many ways. Your event is promoted to a wider audience, and our own staff become aware of the event and can perhaps plan to cover it.

On May 9 there was a fire in our building, in the PrintWest area, where apparently a gluing machine for a telephone book caught fire.
Smoke filled a portion of the building, with a few whiffs reaching the editorial department before the fire alarm went off and the building was evacuated.
Damage was minimal, and luckily no one was harmed.
Our news editor expressed some disappointment that, from a room full of reporters and editors, nobody grabbed a camera on the way out. However, escaping potentially dangerous situations should be the first priority.
Since the fire happened just before the weekly editorial meeting usually takes place, the meeting went ahead – on the lawn outside.
