The Canadian Farm Writers’ Federation recently held its annual conference and meeting in Winnipeg, with more than 100 people in attendance.

Western Producer opinion features received two awards, and another two awards went to a writer who recently joined us. Editor Garry Fairbairn received a silver award in the press editorial category for “Why do farmers pay for rail cars?” Special Reports Editor Barry Wilson won a bronze in the column category for “Westerners get power.”

Meanwhile, D’Arce McMillan, formerly of the Regina Leader-Post, earned a gold in the same category for “Crow Benefit loss will be made easier.” He was awarded a silver in the daily press reporting category for a column in the L-P entitled “New responsibilities.”
