HOGS
The U.S. national live price average for barrows and gilts was unavailable May 20. It was $80.23 May 13.
U.S. hogs averaged $112.97 on a carcass basis May 20, up from $101.47 May 13.
The U.S. pork cutout was $107.11 per hundredweight May 20, up from $101.17 May 13.
The estimated U.S. weekly slaughter to May 21 was 2.414 million, up from 2.375 million the previous week.
Slaughter was 2.391 million last year at the same time.
In Canada, the May 21 Signature Four price was C$227.31 per 100 kilograms, down from $229.85.

The Hams Marketing cash price was $225.31, up from $231.95, HyLife was up to $241.61 from $245.84 the previous week and OlyWest was $234.50, up from $233.80. OlyWest 2021 was down to $235.10 from $238.40, and HyLife’s adjusted price was down to $241.61 from $243.94.
BISON
Prices offered by Canadian buyers for slaughter in Canada start at $4-$4.25 per pound hot hanging weight for Grade A bison bulls and $3.75-$4.25 for heifers on very light trading. Canadian buyers are offering $4.60-$4.80 for prime bulls and $4.40-$4.70 for heifers for slaughter in the United States.
U.S. buyers are paying US$3.60-$4 per lb. hot hanging weight for prime bulls from Canada for U.S. slaughter, where slaughter times are booked. Heifers are being purchased at $3.60-$3.80. Returns to producers are dependent on exchange rates, quality, transportation and export costs.
LAMBS
Ontario Stockyards Inc. reported that 1,247 sheep sold May 16.
Beaver Hill Auction in Tofield, Alta., reported that 1,580 sheep and 140 goats sold May 16.
Wool lambs lighter than 54 lb. were $230-$280 per cwt., 55-69 lb. were $250-$300, 70-85 lb. were $240-$300, 86-105 lb. were $230-$300 and 106 lb. and heavier were $230-$300. Wool rams were $100-$280 per cwt. Cull ewes were $90-$185.
Hair lambs lighter than 54 lb. were $180-$230 per cwt., 55-69 lb. were $200-$260, 70-85 lb. were $230-$260, 86-105 lb. were $230-$260 and 106 lb. and heavier were $230-$260. Hair rams were $120-$180 per cwt. Cull ewes were $100-$160.
