Greg Reinhardt, whose Precision Farming column appeared on this page for several years, has died suddenly at the age of 39.
Reinhardt had taken a break from writing his column this summer, but had planned to return when his research had yielded another year’s data.
He brought a unique perspective to his writing. A farm boy from Eatonia, Sask., with an agricultural engineering degree from the University of Saskatchewan, Reinhardt applied a practical and academic eye to the fast-evolving science of precision farming.
While he wrote a freelance monthly column for The Western Producer, his real job was with Olds College in Olds, Alta, where he worked for four years.
He taught students, helped establish the precision farming project, studied soil compaction with Caterpillar Co., and did research with the college’s Centre for Innovation.
