What is the most-pressing issue facing Canadian farmers today?

Legal plunder can be committed in an infinite number of ways; hence, there are an infinite number of plans for organizing it: tariffs, protection, bonuses, subsidies, incentives, the progressive income tax, free education, the right to employment, the right to profit, the right to wages, the right to relief, the right to the tools of production, interest free credit, etc., etc. And it the aggregate of all these plans, in respect to what they have in common, legal plunder, that goes under the name of socialism. Frederic Bastiat.

If you could ask any political leader a question, what would that question be and who would you ask?

The reason this country continues its drift toward socialism and big nanny government is because too many people vote in the expectation of getting something for nothing, not because they have a concern for what is good for the country. I would ask every politician how they would implement strategy to eliminate the bloated bureaucracy that defines government today.

What is the most-pressing issue facing Canadian farmers today?

Obviously the tariffs and trade issues caused by Trump

If you could ask any political leader a question, what would that question be and who would you ask?

Pollievre-why do you feel it necessary to be so negative towards your opponents and attack them personally. It doesn’t endear you to many voters. Separate the policy from the person
Carney-what will you do to increase Canadian productivity. Will that include lowering regulations and environmental assessments on the oil and gas industry in particular but also mining, lumber, agriculture and other industries that I am unaware of with similar impediments to their growth and productivity.

Neil, Manitoba

What is the most-pressing issue facing Canadian farmers today?

I fear the geopolitics affecting most business in Canada by both Ottawa and Washington!! This will certainly effect Canadian agriculture , particularly if the inept Liberals leading in the polls presently form the next government!! Talk is cheap to them and they are infamous for neglecting campaign promises once in power!!?

If you could ask any political leader a question, what would that question be and who would you ask?

Ask Carney if he”d quit ignoring Western Canadians needs instead going the normal Liberal
way of taking from the west to please Central Canada?

Ken, Alberta

What is the most-pressing issue facing Canadian farmers today?

Interference from the federal government, impacting trade (grain markets), investment (crushing plants, resource development…) and farm business (via carbon taxes and forced fertilizer caps).

If you could ask any political leader a question, what would that question be and who would you ask?

Mark Carney – how can you expect the liberal government to flip on most of its policies and processes developed in the past decade? I don’t believe the PMO can change this direction (for the carbon tax as an example) with the same MPs elected. What would you do differently?

Bryan, Saskatchewan

What issues do you want to see politicians address?

  • Trade and tariffs
  • AgriStability/support for agriculture
  • Government spending/debt
  • Carbon tax
  • Farm labour issues

What is the most-pressing issue facing Canadian farmers today?

Lack of local abbatoirs. Livestock farmers are dealing with the struggle of not having many options for local abbatoirs to get their product butchered to sell. This has caused the issue of scheduling, flexibility of last minute decisions on cull animals and at the bottom line affects our nation’s food security as seen during the pandemic when the big meat packers had to shut down on and off.

If you could ask any political leader a question, what would that question be and who would you ask?

It would be for Mark Carney asking if he is serious about getting rid of the consumer carbon tax for good and focusing more on rural areas of Canada where the Liberals have seemed to have forgotten over the years.

Ben, Ontario

What issues do you want to see politicians address?

Trade and tariffs

What is the most-pressing issue facing Canadian farmers today?

Western Canada produces 19 mmt of canola and most of that goes to US and China. We need open stable markets with these two trading partners. We need the minister of AG, who ever that will be, to maintain access to these two critical trading partners.

If you could ask any political leader a question, what would that question be and who would you ask?

I think I would ask Mark Carney if he will reset relationships with China to develop stable open multi beneficial relationships. We have the resources to help China grow its economy. We have much food in Canada. We need to trade with them. We need a reset.

David, Saskatchewan

What issues do you want to see politicians address?

  • The annexation of Canada by the U.S.
  • Trade and tariffs
  • AgriStability/support for agriculture
  • Broadband connectivity/infrastructure

What is the most-pressing issue facing Canadian farmers today?

One issue that is not getting a lot of attention is agricultural research, science, and education. If we are to be truly competitive in this new world, we have to invest in knowledge and technology. There has been too much tendency in Canadian Ag to think the Life science companies (who are based in America and Europe) will look after for us. We need to invest in Ag Canada, our universities, and other institutions like Indian Head, the Manitoba Crop Diversification Centers, The various food product development facilities etc. We desperately need to develop the intellectual and training capacity to have a successful farm to plate industry that can be good for farmers and also be a foundation for the Canadian economy. The crisis with our relationship with America could also be a new opportunity to develop new opportunities if we stop wringing our hands and begin looking at what we can do with what we already have.

If you could ask any political leader a question, what would that question be and who would you ask?

I would ask for some specific examples of how agriculture could be improved across Canada. Not rhetoric, or tax cuts, but specific programs that help us be competitive and successful. That question is for the leaders of all parties.

Eric, Manitoba

What is the most-pressing issue facing Canadian farmers today?

Export capacity and demand destruction- Brazil continues to ramp its production for export and outcompete. Chinese buyers being forced to find alternatives to NA products

If you could ask any political leader a question, what would that question be and who would you ask?

Carney- the only thing holding you back from taking this thing is your green washing agenda.

Figure out a way to kill that and you’re gold.

What issues do you want to see politicians address?

  • Trade and tariffs
  • AgriStability/support for agriculture
  • Government spending/debt
  • Carbon tax
  • Supply management
  • Farm labour issues

What is the most-pressing issue facing Canadian farmers today?

Finding new markets for grain. Supply management as the US is bringing that up against us . There for wanting to it to put tariffs on to protect votes in eastern Canada. East/West pipeline, Bring Canadains closer together not east versus west. Letting Quebec think they a special and if they are then the west will wanna be special also no more equation payments.

If you could ask any political leader a question, what would that question be and who would you ask?

Liberals and Conservatives how they feel about all carbon taxes and how they will bring Canada together. Would either party revamp safety nets to match up with today’s current escalating costs of running a farm. What are they going to do for Ag if Trump puts tariffs on and drives up all are costs and how. Any plans to help young farmers. Foreign ownership or farmland? What are you going you about it? How can a farmer start in Southern Saskatchewan and grow to 350-400 thousand acres with all new machinery every year, pay people to run it, buy multiple ranches in BC for cattle , buy US farmland without out foreign money sneaking in to help.

Kevin, Saskatchewan

What issues do you want to see politicians address?

  • Trade and tariffs
  • AgriStability/support for agriculture
  • Capital gains tax rules
  • Supply management

What is the most-pressing issue facing Canadian farmers today?

Tariffs number 1 and a close 2nd agristability. Supply management must end, it hurts not only the rest of agriculture but many other commodities.

If you could ask any political leader a question, what would that question be and who would you ask?

Why do you keep supporting supply management when it is so destructive to the rest of the Canadian economy? Ask all the leaders of the political parties. Of course we know the answer is to win votes from Quebec. I think Quebec votes would not support supply management if it understood how expensive it is to maintain.

Nemo, Manitoba

What issues do you want to see politicians address?

  • The annexation of Canada by the U.S.

What is the most-pressing issue facing Canadian farmers today?

One of the most pressing issues is communication. Farmers and rural residents are limited and left out of conversations that matter. Rural connectivity is a major infrastructure issue.

If you could ask any political leader a question, what would that question be and who would you ask?

When will the Canadian government lift restrictions on social media sites so Canadians can freely share news stories?

When will we see a national strategy for internet connectivity that meets rural needs and removes geography as a barrier to where people can live and work?

Mary, Saskatchewan

But it all begins and ends with
the last decade of our federal government make everything
harder and costlier for Canadian
Farmers!

If you could ask any political leader a question, what would that question be and who would you ask?

Mr Carney,
When your liberal government put 100%
tariffs on EV cars coming in from china
did you consider who china would retaliate against? It’s the western Canadian grain farmers yet again, would
love to hear from you on this one & how you’ll help grain farmers going forward! It’s not just the auto sector that’s hurting!!

What is the most-pressing issue facing Canadian farmers today?

The blatant disregard for the farmers. Mr. Singh’s communist plan of having all farm land owned by corporations or the government needs to be stopped.

If you could ask any political leader a question, what would that question be and who would you ask?

I’d ask Mr. Singh – “ Why is it that you are so against the family farms in Canada? Don’t forget that they are the ones who feed all the people in the cities that you live!”

Becoming a Western version of Russia under mark carney.

If you could ask any political leader a question, what would that question be and who would you ask?

Will mark carney connect canadians to the davos elites and the world globalists.
Will the onley means of expressing our displeasure be to arrange a trucker convoy to go to ottawa.
It’s that were to happen would Carney. Seize our bank accounts.
The answer is very likely

What is the most-pressing issue facing Canadian farmers today?

The governments un-ending corruption and choosing to “throw agriculture under the bus” to protect other industries in the east. It seems that agriculture only matters in this country ii it’s vote rich Quebec, Ontario or the Atlantic provinces.

If you could ask any political leader a question, what would that question be and who would you ask?

Will you clean up the corruption and bring criminal charges against those who have profited illegally?

Brent, Alberta

A recognition of the value of western Canada in this so called confederation called Canada.

  • Trade and tariffs
  • AgriStability/support for agriculture

What is the most-pressing issue facing Canadian farmers today?

Today’s most pressing issue is the charges on carbon taxes. This is ridiculous. And I’m hoping all this carbon taxes will be returned to all Payers

If you could ask any political leader a question, what would that question be and who would you ask?

I would ask our politicians, leaders, if they really want to make a great country, why don’t the liberals and conservatives talk nice about each other instead of condemning each other. In order to be a good leader, you have to be polite to each other. So your repetition will be notified by Canadians. And show that you care about Canadians, not condemned them. Please use our resources to make Canada strong. So we don’t have to go to China and import there product, build our economy making our resources available to the world. Let’s get as strong as China.

What is the most-pressing issue facing Canadian farmers today?

Government spending , they waste our money on everything but Canada we sit in last place footing the bill and receive virtually nothing in return.

If you could ask any political leader a question, what would that question be and who would you ask?

I would ask the conservative leader how he plans to address Trump and tariffs ,also how are we going to find markets for Canadian goods , oil, gas, grain , meat , cars etc. Canada can not live by producing only for our small market we must have a plan to reduce spending and increase sales .

Darrel, Alberta

What is the most-pressing issue facing Canadian farmers today?

Technology and innovation. If we are truly trying to move forward from hydrocarbons, what is the replacement for reliable energy? Weather related problems are also a concern. It seems to me that we are going to fall behind the curve on this phenomena. Especially with the push back from some quarters against the science telling us what is coming.

If you could ask any political leader a question, what would that question be and who would you ask?

How are you going to pay for the proposed increase in defence spending? How are you going to address our medical system shortfalls? How do we pay for that?

I would direct these questions to both Mr. Carney and Mr. Poilievre .

Trade and tariff uncertainty

If you could ask any political leader a question, what would that question be and who would you ask?

With the increasing tariffs and supply chain disruptions, particularly those affecting fertilizer and equipment, if elected; what specific, long-term strategies will be the government developing to ensure Canadian farmers can remain competitive and food secure? I’m not just talking about short-term relief, but actual policies that will make us less vulnerable to these global trade fluctuations in the years to come. Things like supporting domestic production of key inputs, diversifying our trade relationships, and investing in infrastructure that strengthens our supply chains within Canada.

What is the most-pressing issue facing Canadian farmers today?

The lack of infrastructure required to enhance and support Canada’s Agricultural industry and production capability along with access to markets. We do not take enough product to the end use ourselves.

If you could ask any political leader a question, what would that question be and who would you ask?

In Canada we rely heavily on the export of raw product and with efficient and sustainable practices already in place, no till seeding, variable rate fertilizer and pesticide application etc. we produce more with less inputs and we are doing it on less land base every year, Ontario alone loses 300 acres of prime farm land to development.
How do you plan to strengthen the countries agricultural infrastructure and end use capabilities and how do you plan to protect our prime farm lands from development.

Mark Carney Would you cancel that last stupid round of gun restrictions which means I can’t use my generational garrand m1 for moose hunting. Also why are non Canadian mothers punishing to pay medical fees when they give birth to a Canadian father? This is another legislation urgently needs to be amended.
Hope you’re listening and take action.

Capital gains

The ECAP payment in the states.

If you could ask any political leader a question, what would that question be and who would you ask?

First off the relationship between EVs and canola?
Second why are the capital gains exemptions not reflective of the cost of living and more reasonable to transfer the farm so as not to cripple the next generation. Why does the government believe they are owed millions in capital gain taxes for the average farm sale?

Why is agristability announcement not advertised as help that may not show up until fall 2026
