Alberta

South

n Received from 40 to 100 millimetres of rain. Surface soil moisture 21 percent fair, 47 good and 28 excellent.

n Spring cereals 45 percent fair, 45 percent good to excellent. Canola is 20 poor, 48 fair and 32 good to excellent.

n Hail reported near Taber and Seven Persons.

n First cut hay nearly complete. Pasture 39 percent poor, 39 fair and 22 excellent.

Central

n Twenty to 80 mm of rain have improved conditions, especially in later seeded crops.

n Some crops were terminated and converted to summerfallow.

Northeast

n 30 to 100 mm of rain. Soil moisture 17 percent poor, 64 fair and 19 good.

n Regrowth and germination of ungerminated seed have caused uneven crops.

n Cereals 35 percent poor, 52 fair and 13 good. Canola 44 poor, 48 fair and eight good.

Peace and B.C.

n Rain in south and north, with central starving for moisture.

n Hail damage in south.

n Soil moisture variable, with 37 percent poor, 32 fair and 31 good to excellent.

n Cereals 21 percent poor, 38 percent fair and 41 percent good to excellent. Canola 16 percent poor, 30 percent fair and 54 percent good to excellent.

n First cut haying underway, with less than average yields.

Saskatchewan

Southwest

n Limited rainfall. Surface moisture 71 percent adequate, 30 percent short.

n Cereals 65 percent good to excellent, remainder fair. Canola 63 percent good to excellent, remainder fair. Pulses 70 percent good to excellent.

n Haying underway. Yields below average.

Southeast

n Some lows near freezing point, with highs nearing 37 C. Recent heat advancing the crops.

n Fifteen to 50 mm of rain, with hail at Kennedy.

n Surface moisture is 67 percent good, 28 fair and two poor.

n Pastures are 54 percent good, 22 percent fair and 24 percent poor.

n Cereals 65 percent good to excellent, 30 percent fair. Canola 62 good to excellent 30 fair and remainder poor. Pulse crops good to excellent.

n Haying underway and complete in some areas, all report fair to poor yields.

n Grasshopper and pea aphids.

West-central

n Rain and heat improving crops overall. At Rosetown and Kindersley some localized flooding.

n Surface cropland moisture 79 percent good with remainder poor.

n Multiple crop stages due to late rain and poor germination.

n Spring cereals 35 percent good, 55 percent fair to poor, remainder very poor. Canola 27 percent good, 40 percent fair and 29 percent poor.

n Poor hay yields expected. Haying half complete.

East-central

n Cropland soil moisture 86 percent good, with remainder fair.

n Haying underway with yields of nearly one tonne per acre expected.

n Cereals and pulses 75 percent good to excellent. Canola 63 percent good to excellent, 32 percent fair.

n Wheat midge at Neudorf, Kelliher and Quill Lake, root maggot at Leroy. Bertha armyworm at Kuroki.

Northwest

n Surface soil moisture is generally good.

n Haying and silage operations underway.

n Cereals 80 percent good or better. Canola 60 percent good or better. Pulses 85 percent good or better.

n Haying started. Below average yields.

n Wheat midge and grasshoppers reported as well as sclerotinia and ascochyta in pulses.

Northeast

n Soil moisture generally good.

n 65 percent of cereal crops good or better. Canola 60 percent good, 30 fair and nine poor.Pulse crops 75 percent good or better.

n Haying underway. Poor to average yields.

n Insect damage from wheat midge.

Manitoba

Southwest

n Spotty showers up to 15 mm.

n Variable development in cereals, filling to flowering. Canola flowering to podding.

n First cut hay complete, with poor yields.

n Fungicide spraying complete, midge and grasshopper spraying underway.

n Pastures drying down, in need of rain.

Southeast and Red River Valley

n Showers up to 50 mm near Morris.

n Canola and cereal fungicide applications reported. Fusarium at low levels.

n Iron chlorosis due to excess moisture.

n Grasshoppers, alfalfa weevil, sunflower weevil larvae feeding, but little damage, low Bertha trap counts.

n First cut hay complete with good yields, some second cut started.

n Potato growth spotty, varied.

Central and Interlake

n Dry conditions aiding crop development.

n Corn and soybeans starting to grow rapidly, very late.

n Greenfeed crops advancing.

n Fungicide being applied.

n Hay from poor yields to excellent where moisture didn’t damage the crop.

Northwest

n Rain near St. Rose and Roblin helped crops and forages and slowed haying.

n Cereals headed out, peas and canola podding.

n Apothecia present, indicating sclerotinia threat.

n Haying 50 percent complete, with lower yields in older stands and newer stands showing better results.
