Manitoba

Southwest

  • Cool temperatures have delayed seeding.
  • Pulse crops lead others in planting progress.
  • Pastures in good condition.

Southeast and Red River Valley

  • Wet to moist conditions are keeping producers off fields.
  • Volunteer canola and cereals and winter annual weeds are causing concern in areas where spraying has not started.
  • Pastures good to very good.

Central and Interlake

Northwest

  • NH3 applications underway where conditions allow.
  • Poor fall-seeded crops due to delayed seeding dates in 2008.
  • Pasture conditions moist and in need of heat.

Saskatchewan

Southwest

  • Seeding is 43 percent complete.
  • Cool soils delay pastures.
  • Rain and snow were reported in eastern areas.
  • Sixty percent of cropland soils have sufficient moisture, with the remainder short.
  • Winter cereals in good condition.

Southeast

  • Crops are 15 percent planted.
  • Snow and rain delayed seeding in many areas.
  • One quarter of land has excess moisture.
  • Pastures in good condition.

West Central

  • Seeding is 32 percent complete with peas, lentils and canola leading.
  • Soil moisture varies from adequate in the east to poor in the west and very poor near Rosetown, Kindersley and North Battleford.

East Central

  • Seeding is nine percent underway, with some pre-seeding weed control.
  • Pastures reported in good condition.

Northwest

  • Seeding of peas and canola underway, with 18 percent complete.
  • Pasture conditions are 75 percent average to good and 25 percent poor.

Northeast

  • Seeding is 18 percent complete.
  • Soil moisture is adequate, weed and crop development very slow due to cold temperatures.
  • Pastures reported in good condition.

Alberta

South

  • Seeding is 30 percent complete.
  • Winter cereals are good to excellent.

Central

  • Seeding is 15 percent complete on peas, canola and cereals.
  • Poor subsoil moisture widely reported.
  • Fall-seeded crops are 41 percent fair, 46 good, 11 poor.

Northwest

  • Seeding about 10 percent completed.
  • Cool soils and limited moisture northwest of Edmonton and dry conditions to the northwest.
  • Pastures 50 percent poor.

Northeast

  • Fall-seeded crops in poor condition, with half showing significant winter damage.
  • Forage crops 54 percent poor.
  • Frost damage to alfalfa reported.

Peace and B.C.

  • Surface moisture is rated as very good in most areas, with subsoil rated 45 percent fair.
  • Fall-seeded crops in good to fair condition.
  • Pastures in good condition, but delayed due to cold.
