A new website will offer Manitoba residents information and advice on minimizing the impact of greenhouse gas emissions.
The Green Registry website is the first phase of a provincial program that aims to establish a local carbon credit trading system for businesses and individuals. The second phase is to be rolled out early next spring.
Science, technology, energy and mines minister Jim Rondeau said the registry will educate Manitobans about climate change and encourage residents to reduce greenhouse gas emissions.
The registry will offer information on residential and business incentive programs, greenhouse gas protocols and climate change service providers.
Rondeau also announced $17,000 in funding for the Manitoba Food Charter’s Manitoba Food Miles Program. The goal is to increase public awareness of the benefits of eating locally grown food, which reduces the distance food must travel to reach the marketplace.
