Entomosporium leaf and berry spot is a serious disease of saskatoons with the potential to cause significant and possibly complete yield loss.
This happened in many orchards in 1999. Many growers applied fungicides this spring to protect their crop.
The disease can be confused with other leaf spots or damage.
Symptoms may first appear as small angular brown spots on leaves. These spots may enlarge, grow together, and be surrounded by a yellow halo.
Once the brown spots grow together, they may appear as irregular brown patches. Infected leaves will eventually turn completely yellow.
Infected fruit may be shriveled and discolored.
A combination of chemical and cultural practices will help to produce a healthy crop.
