Viterra is upgrading two elevators in northwestern Saskatchewan.

The company will expand storage at its North Battleford facility by 8,000 tonnes, boosting its overall capacity to 33,800 tonnes.

At Lloydminster, the elevator’ storage will be expanded by 12,000 tonnes for total capacity of 27,000 tonnes. Viterra will also double its loading capacity at Lloydminster to 112 rail cars from 56.

Construction is expected to begin this spring and be completed by late fall.

Bob Miller, senior vice-president of North American Grain for Viterra, said the upgrades are part of the company’s strategy to invest in infrastructure and maintain a strong presence in top grain producing regions.

“By (making these investments), we are able to accept and move higher volumes of grain, resulting in faster unloading times and cost savings for farmers,” he said.
