A new deadline has been set for anyone who wants to take part in the Canadian Wheat Board’s service complaint against the railways.
The Canadian Transportation Agency said last week interested parties have until Feb. 27 to let the agency know.
The deadline applies to those who want to participate in the public hearings, slated to begin March 30 in Saskatoon, and to those who wish to submit a written brief but not take part in the hearings.
The board wants the CTA to rule that the railways failed to provide adequate service hauling grain to the West Coast in the winter of 1996-97.

The railways say any problems shipping grain to port were the result of bad weather and operational problems throughout the grain handling and transportation system.
Compensation for farmers
The board wants the agency to order the railways to do a better job and to provide adequate equipment to haul grain in the future. And it says it would use a favorable ruling to take the railways to court and seek damages for farmers who lost an estimated $65 million in grain sales because of the transportation tie-ups.
