U of S prof nominated for award of innovation

Brian Rossnagel has been nominated for the Award of Innovation.

He is a plant breeder at the University of Saskatchewan’s Crop Development Centre and a world expert in oat and barley genetics.

Rossnagel is responsible for more than 90 new cultivars, several of which are the preferred varieties for western Canadian farmers.

These varieties are seeded on millions of acres per year and have generated more than $3 million in royalties for the CDC.

Selection criteria include innovation, novelty and potential commercial impact. The selection committee includes representatives from the universtiy, and agencies and companies at the university research park.
