WINNIPEG — (Staff) Students attending the University of Manitoba faculty of agricultural and food science won’t be going to classes in old barns thanks to the federal-provincial infrastructure program.

Officials have announced a $6.75-million project to replace the east and west wings of the faculty’s complex. The wings were built 80 years ago as barns for the university’s original farm complex.

The grant will allow construction of a three-storey building linking the crop research building, centre block and greenhouse into a single structure as well as providing larger classrooms, a library and multi-use facilities. Construction should begin next spring and is expected to create 120 jobs.
