Sales of new two-wheel-drive tractors grew in Canada in 2005, but four-wheel-drive tractor sales declined and combine sales were flat.
The Association of Equipment Manufacturers reported Jan. 12 that two-wheel-drive unit sales climbed by almost 10 percent over 2004 to 18,701 units.
Sales of tractors with less than 40 horsepower jumped by 15 percent over last year to 8,138 units, but larger units with 100 hp or more also saw a good year, climbing 10 percent to 3,797 units. The middle range of tractors 40 to 99 hp rose 3.5 percent to 6,766 units.
Four-wheel-drive units fell by slightly more than 10 percent to 641 units.
Combine sales were flat at 1,559 units.
