SASKATOON – A byelection has been called to fill a vacancy on the senior grain transportation committee.
Farmers in northwestern Saskatchewan will vote in early March for a new representative to replace the late Peter Loewen of Glenbush, Sask.
There are nine elected producer representatives on the committee, which also includes about 20 officials from all sectors of the grain handling and transportation industry. The committee is an advisory body to the minister of transport and the Grain Transportation Agency.
Nomination forms and other information have been sent to all permit book holders in the region. Candidates must be nominated by Feb. 7, with voting slated for Feb. 28 to March 4, using a special phone-in system. The next general election of production representatives will take place in 1996.
